This is an exciting opportunity to join the History Department (part of the Humanities Faculty) within an outstanding Secondary School for a fixed term period. The successful candidate will be committed to planning and delivering a high quality, interesting curriculum, which will challenge and inspire all our students.
The Humanities at Tomlinscote is a successful area both in terms of exam success and in terms of the thinking skills that the subjects work hard to develop. Opportunities for international collaborations and visits abroad are available. The History teachers are a team of friendly and supportive members of the school staff who work hard to ensure that all learners and colleagues are able to work to their full potential. The team is passionate about providing an engaging history curriculum that allows students to access a greater understanding of how our society and world has developed. You will have the ability to deliver inspiring lessons, be part of creating an exceptional place of learning and help build on the excellent current standards of History in the school.
We are looking for a teacher who displays the following characteristics:
- Enthusiasm for working with 11-16 year old students.
- A thoughtful and self-reflective approach to pedagogy.
- A desire to be an outstanding classroom practitioner.
- A passion for the subject.
- Excellent ICT skills that make learning visible in the classroom.
- Excellent subject knowledge and a continued desire to develop further.

Tomlinscote is a highly successful, over-subscribed, mixed comprehensive school of approximately 1500 students. Our staff enjoy working here because our standards, facilities and staff well-being are excellent.
Our students are a pleasure to teach and make excellent progress as shown by the positive examination data. All Tomlinscote students and teaching staff have their own iPad to enhance learning inside or outside of the classroom.
As a new member of staff you will receive plenty of support from colleagues within the department and from the wider school community.
We also expect staff to undertake a pastoral role as a form tutor.
