2 I DEVELOPED MY LOVE FOR LEARNING At Tomlinscote, we aim to provide our students with opportunities to further enhance a real love of learning. This is achieved through the commitment and dedication of an incredible team of highly skilled teaching and support staff.

3 On a daily basis, students participate in opportunities to grow as both independent and collaborative learners. We want all our students to be challenged, to take risks and develop an enquiring mind. Our primary ambition for our students is that they leave Tomlinscote confident in the knowledge that they possess the learning and life skills needed to ensure that they are fully prepared for further education, employment and the wider society. We have a broad curriculum that is designed to ensure our students become engaged and challenged, but also feel supported at the same time. At Key Stage 3, we ensure that students experience a range of different subjects; GCSEs start in the last half term of Year 9. A great deal of care is taken to make sure that students receive the best advice and guidance in order to make informed decisions. There are many subjects to choose from! Students can study separate Sciences, complete either Japanese or Chinese as an extra GCSE and all benefit from an excellent PSHE curriculum.

I DEVELOPED MY INDEPENDENCE At Tomlinscote, we work closely with our primary schools to ensure that students enjoy a smooth transition to secondary school. All students attend an Induction Day where they get a taste of Year 7 lessons and new experiences. Our Year 10 mentors will be there to help students find their way around the school and provide support. Year 7 students follow the National Curriculum subjects, but additionally: • all our students have an iPad to use at school and at home. This adds fantastic value to learning and provides new, breathtaking opportunities for students. They really are 21st century learners at Tomlinscote! • all Year 7 and 8 students are engaged in the Accelerated Reading programme, which supports and stretches literacy skills, • all Year 7 students benefit from five Enrichment Days that develop teamwork skills, e-Safety, wellbeing and an understanding of sustainability. They also have an anti-bullying day, • students will study a language in Year 7 and a second language is studied in Years 8 and 9. Early in Year 7, we have a “Meet the Tutors” evening where you can meet the Tutor who provides the day to day pastoral support for your child. 4

5 I DEVELOPED MY CREATIVE SIDE There is an extensive range of clubs and activities in which students can participate. At Tomlinscote, our students continue to excel in the Arts and this is evident with whole-School productions, music concerts, art and photography shows and dance performances. These are important to develop student confidence and to provide enriching experiences. The brilliant “Rock of Ages” musical and “Rock Challenge” dance productions illustrate our commitment to the Creative Arts with so many Year 7 to 11 students participating. We support Year 7 students learning a new instrument, paying for instrumental lessons with our peripatetic team and providing students with their chosen instrument for one year. Students play in the Year 7 Wind Band and can also participate in other musical ensembles such as the Jazz Band.

6 The wide diversity of activities will provide opportunities to develop new skills and improve health and fitness. Students are proud to represent the school in fixtures and competitions: our most successful sports are consistently athletics, cross country, football and netball. • Netball • Football • Cross country • Track and field athletics • Dodgeball • Fitness • Sportshall athletics • Rugby • Cricket • Table tennis • Badminton • Rounders • Handball • Orienteering I DEVELOPED MY ENTHUSIASM FOR SPORTS Physical Education is an integral part of the extracurricular provision and Tomlinscote students benefit from superb and improving facilities.

At Tomlinscote, we strive to create a community that everyone is proud to belong to and in which they feel valued. We are a school that is outward looking, aiming to have a positive influence on the wider community. Your child will belong to a Tutor Group. The Form Tutor is the first point of contact and provides one key part of our pastoral support. A Head of Year will lead the Tutors and our two Student Support Officers provide additional care. Furthermore, our students belong to one of our five Houses and compete in Inter-House competitions throughout the year. Our students raise a great deal of money for local charities through designated House “Charity Days”. Links with local businesses and organisations are important and students benefit from activities such as SATRO and STEM competitions. We have a very strong link with Wellington College. All students undertake work experience and have 1:1 career interviews. Tomlinscote was first awarded the International School Award in 2012 and we have recently been reaccredited with the award until 2025. Tomlinscote encourages foreign exchanges and students have many opportunities to visit abroad whilst they are at the school. Students also benefit from our link with the Goethe Institut: we are one of just three secondary schools in the UK they have links with. We also support students who wish to take an extra GCSE in their home language. All subjects seek to enhance internationalism and inter-cultural understanding. Recently, students have been skiing in Austria, History runs a trip to the Battlefields and Languages to Spain, France and Germany. Our students have been fortunate to complete expeditions to Bolivia, China, Vietnam, Uganda, Borneo, Indonesia and most recently to Costa Rica. These opportunities exist because we have very dedicated staff and aspiring students. 7 I DEVELOPED MY UNDERSTANDING OF COMMUNITY

8 Students have the opportunity to become Year Team and School Council members, Sports Leaders, Year 8 Mindfulness Ambassadors, House Captains and Librarians. Our most senior students can become prefects and represent students as part of the Student Leadership Team. We have two student presidents who lead the student voice and specific student led projects. All Year 7 students benefit from the support from our Year 10 Mentors throughout their first year. I DEVELOPED MY LEADERSHIP SKILLS The Student Voice and Student Leadership are essential to Tomlinscote; we provide many opportunities for our students to get involved and to shape what happens in the school.
