Year 11 applications for post-16 progression
Year 11 is an exciting time for any student and will be the time for making important decisions about the future! The Careers Education programme at Tomlinscote prepares students for all possible post-16 pathways though a number of in-school events.
The autumn term of Year 11 is particularly important as students start to think about their options for post-16. As you will be aware, the government requires all young people to be in an element of education, employment or training until they are 18 years old. Young people nowadays have a real range of options for post-16 and it is really important that Year 11s keep their options open and explore the variety of pathways out there in order to make an informed choice regarding their next steps.
The first core PSHE module in the Autumn 1 term enables us to welcome in a real range of differing local post-16 providers to inform our students of their curriculum offer. These cover all post-16 pathways including Colleges/Sixth Forms, Apprenticeships and Technical training routes. Local post-16 providers are also in attendance at various in-school and evening information events throughout Years 10 and 11 to help inform families of next steps and the options available.
Please see the information below regarding the dates of all local post-16 providers and information regarding their open events and information evenings. Furthermore, please see the link below to last year's video presentation from Farnborough Sixth Form College for Year 11 families ahead of making their applications for September 2024. The College will release a similar presentation for current Year 11 students applying to the College for September 2025 and this page will be updated one we receive this.
We have recently added a recorded information session for students and parents regarding apprenticeships, 'An Introduction to Apprenticeships' (November 2024) to give families more information regarding this post-16 pathway. Please find the recording of this event below in the downloads section.
