I hope our web site will give you a flavour of the high quality education we offer. Standards – of learning, achievement and behaviour – are high at Tomlinscote and we are very proud that this was recognised with an ‘Outstanding’ judgement by Ofsted. I am very confident that when you visit the school, or speak to our students, that the high expectations we have of our school will be evident.
We are a very popular school with 270 students joining us in Year 7 each September, giving us a total population of over 1650. We are regularly oversubscribed. If your son or daughter currently attends primary school, our prospectus can be found by following the link at the bottom of this page. We hold an Open Evening each autumn and offer tours during the school day. Information will be published on the web site. We have a thorough induction programme to help our new students settle in and they all have the advantage of a personal laptop for use in school and at home. This unique opportunity really makes a difference to progress students make at school.
An overwhelming number of our Year 11 students choose to continue their education in our Sixth Form College. They are joined by a large number of students from other local schools. They all benefit from excellent teaching (our Sixth Form was also judged to be Outstanding by Ofsted), relatively small classes and have the benefits of being part of a dynamic school community. Alongside a wide range of A and AS courses, the new £3.5M Vocational Centre is a wonderful facility, extending the range of courses we offer to include subjects as diverse as Catering, Football Coaching, Construction, Hair, Beauty and Technical Theatre. Our school is unique in being able to offer such a breadth of provision, allowing students to develop their abilities in many areas.
Tomlinscote is a very ambitious school. We expect all our students to develop a love of learning and we look to equip them with the skills to make a real difference to their families and the communities in which they live, both now and in the future. We value the support we have from parents and we strive to improve our work further. We have strong links with many organisations, both locally and across the world; internationalism has a real meaning for us. Locally, we work closely with other providers to offer a broad curriculum and we have a special relationship with Kings International College that drew special praise from Ofsted during both their inspection and our own.
As you can tell, I am very proud of our school. Our aim is very clear - we simply want to be the very best. I hope you will want to find out more and I look forward to meeting you whether as a student, member of staff, parent or visitor.
